4 Podcasts to Help CEOs Think Differently about Sales

Feb 18, 2021 | Business Owners, Productivity

I bet you thought I was going to present a list of podcasts about sales.

I listen to these podcasts purposely so that I don’t think about sales, but there always seems to be something that makes me think about sales differently.

Most of us who lead companies spend a fair amount of time learning by reading or listening to books, reading articles and blogs, and listening to podcasts.

For me listening seems to be the best way for me to learn and stay current lately. So much time on the computer makes my eyes fatigued, so listening gives my eyes a much-needed break. I like podcasts because they are short, current, and I can listen while I’m exercising, cleaning, or just sitting. I also love the format and variety of guests, especially on these non-sales shows.

These podcasts inspire mehelp me think differently, and creatively. I think you might enjoy them too.

1. The Business of Story with Park Howell

Who doesn’t love a story? A great story is why movies become hits, people binge on Netflix, brands become great (and sellers sell more). I said I didn’t listen to these podcasts because they are about sales, but hearing the stories of all the guests on Park’s show gives me great ideas for my clients.

P.S. Park would love to know if you listen to his show, so connect with him on Linkedin and let him know. Tell him I sent you.

2. Casual Space with Beth Mund

I’ve recently became acquainted with this podcast. I love all things space. Star Wars, Star TrekThe Mandalorian, and other space shows. I love my Star Walk appWhat I didn’t realize until I started listening to Beth Mundformer NASA Public Affairs Officer, how much business was going on in space. I knew about SpaceX, but I was floored at how many companies are working in space, planning to, and what a global issue it is. Of course, I started thinking about selling space products and services.

3. How I Built This with Guy Raz

I’m sure you’ve listened to this show and if you haven’t what are you waiting for? It is about business but not specifically about sales. Unbelievable stories are told by people who just wouldn’t quit. They talk candidly about the highs and lows. The success and the mistakes. The stories of these companies are absolutely amazing. I always pick up a new idea that I can try or share with the CEOs I work with. I find myself listening to some of these episodes multiple times. It is definitely binge-worthy.

4. Science Friday with Ira Flatow

I love this show. I’m always amazed. I learn so many thingsIt really takes me away from work and gives me a break. It gets me thinking about things I don’t usually think about. And oddly enough science has more to do with sales than you would think. Sometimes while I’m listening an idea for sales pops into my head but usually, it’s later, when I am working on a project, a connection will come up that will cause me to change what I was going to do based on the link between some of the science I learned about and a sales challenge. Sounds crazy, I know but I love it.

I’d love to know which podcasts inspire you, please leave a comment below!

I’m looking forward to learning from you and other CEOs so I’m off to listen to How I Built This right now.
